Owners of Central Park office tower in Perth invest $1.4 million on a bicycle facility for tenants

In a commercial market where building owners are looking at ways to  attract and retain tenants, one building in Perth has developed a $1.4 million state-of-the-art bicycle facility for tenant use.

The owners of Central Park office tower at 152-158 St Georges Terrace have taken the unusual step of converting parking spaces into a 240 bike parking facility .

The Ride & Park facility will open for use on Monday 13th February and is free for tenants to use.

General Manager of Central Park, Tim Ward said the joint owners of the 51-storey office tower, Perron Investments Pty Ltd & APF Management Pty Ltd have invested over a year’s worth of research and design into the project.

“This facility is more than just a place to park your bike.  It can cater for 240 bicycles, and also has showers, lockers, a clothes dryer and drying rooms, irons and hairdryers.

“But the point of difference is that it also provides a work bench, along with a pump to perform emergency repairs on those inconvenient flats.  A vending machine will be installed containing basic bicycle repair kits, tubes and the like.  This is designed as a one stop shop for a cyclist.”

“We are even examining the option of a bicycle repair shop to provide a pick up and deliver, bike servicing option.

“We believe this facility is one of the largest (confirmed that we are at present largest – BHP will be larger when it comes on board, however does not have the same range of facilities)  and most contemporary of its kind in Western Australian and possibly even in Australia.

“We did the research and discovered that Central Park averages around 200 cyclists on any given day.”

“As a premium CBD building, this is the type of facility which, while creating no extra income, is the way of the future and results in an appreciative, healthy and loyal tenant,” said Mr Ward.

David Motta, Building Engineer at Central Park and Project Manager said, “The owners of the building were supportive in providing this premium product for its tenants and the result has been that the new facility has been received with overwhelming enthusiasm.”

“Registrations for the fully secure facility exceeded 200 within days of being announced and preview tours exceeded 200 within an hour of availability,” said Mr Motta.
