Student Housing expert from the UK to join Jones Lang LaSalle in Australia

Conal Newland will bring knowledge gained from working in the student accommodation sector in the UK for the past 8 years to the Australian market

AUSTRALIA, 22 OCTOBER 2012 – Jones Lang LaSalle has appointed a specialist adviser on student accommodation in the UK market to head up its Student Accommodation Services team in Australia.

Conal Newland will take up the role as National Director, based in Sydney.

He has spent the past 8 years working for King Sturge (now Jones Lang LaSalle following a merger in 2011) in the UK student accommodation market.
Stephen Conry, CEO of Jones Lang LaSalle Australia said, “We recently announced an expansion into the student accommodation services market, due to the growth in demand for student housing in Australia.  Global investors, developers and operators are keenly looking at this sector of the Australian market.
“The appointment of Conal will bring to Australia valuable experience he has gained from working in the student accommodation sector in the UK for the past 8 years,” said Mr Conry.
During his time as a National Director in the Student Housing and Higher Education division in the UK, Conal completed student accommodation transactions totalling 10,000 bedrooms and a combined project finance value of 550 million pounds.
He has acted for a large number of UK developers and funding institutions and provided specialist advice to Universities and investors on student accommodation valuation, development consultancy and residential estate strategies.
Conal holds a Masters of Business Studies (Valuation and Property Management) from Massey University in New Zealand and is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the New Zealand Institute of Valuers.
