Historic Brookvale property changes hands for first time in 60 years

4,345sqm site opposite Westfield Warringah Mall sold after competitive JLL campaign

A family-owned property on Sydney's Northern Beaches has been sold for the first time in 60 years, by JLL's Director, Sales and Investments – NSW, David Mathews and JLL Senior Executive, Sales and Investments – NSW, Gary Mason.

Located at 628 Pittwater Road, the vacant property is located in the suburb of Brookvale and measures approximately 4,345sqm. It has been purchased by an undisclosed local buyer from owner Bill Ebsary, following an Expressions of Interest (EOI) campaign.

The site is situated opposite Westfield Warringah Mall and offers B5 Zoning which allows for possible uses including bulky goods premises, child care centres, hotels/motels, self-storage units and vehicle sales or hire premises.

The property had been held by the Ebsary family since 1954. Throughout that time it had been the head office, design and manufacturing facility for the family-owned engineering business, Ebsray Pumps, and the site from which it supplied its locally manufactured niche market pumps to both the local Australian and many international markets – today exporting to more than 35 countries worldwide.

Mr Mathews said, "This property was in high demand having been held by the Ebsary family for over 60 years. We received offers from a range of local, national and international buyers, with the most demand coming from buyers involved in the storage business."

Mr Mason said, "The high-exposure location on Pittwater Road and position within a tightly held market ensured a very competitive sales process. We received over 80 enquiries from the market, with the size of the site and B5 zoning strengthening the offering."

The property was also the premises that in the late 1950s and 1960s, Viv Ebsary AM, the founder of the industrial pump business, developed pioneering and creative specialised medical equipment including the first Australian designed and locally manufactured Heart-Lung machines for open heart surgery – for use in many major hospitals throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Ebsray Pumps was recently acquired by a globally based US pump group, and the pump business has been relocated to larger premises in nearby Cromer.
