Australian universities have undergone a rapid transformation in recent years. Change brought about by a different demand dynamic, globalisation and Federal Government reform all of which impact upon the management of infrastructure and facilities of tertiary institutions. One of the most significant government reforms was the introduction of a demand driven funding model in 2012. In this paper we examine a number of strategic approaches as well as quick-wins for Facility Managers in the tertiary education sector to achieve cost savings in an increasingly competitive environment.
