Supporting ANZ’s new retail branch experience

Challenge

ANZ have developed a new design concept for its retail branches that was sustainable, incorporated the latest technologies, and provided consistent brand and service experience to customers.

JLL, in collaboration with the designer Breathe Architecture, was engaged by ANZ to project manage and execute the redesign of their retail branch at Castle Plaza Shopping Centre in South Australia. The aim of the project was to introduce a sustainable building design that could be rolled out to retail branches nationally. The design needed to be suitable for to a wide range of clients, but in particular ANZ wanted to focus on appealing to younger customers. This was achieved through the use of high-quality materials and finishes combined with soft furnishings and lush leafy plants, providing a pleasant layout that was welcoming, contemporary, and functional for clients.

Approach

JLL provided end-to-end services which included analysing the site and assessing the scope of work required to meet ANZ’s requirements. 

To meet the sustainability aims of the Breathe ANZ Design Standard, all materials and supplies used were manufactured in Australia. In addition, excess construction materials from the Castle Plaza renovation will be recycled and used on future ANZ retail branch upgrades.

COVID-19 safety measures, including border closures and lockdowns, that were in place during the project added to the challenge and complexity of the project. To manage the implementation remotely, we introduced a technology solution called Matterport scan — an all-in-one platform that transforms real-life spaces into immersive digital twin models. This allowed us to continue to connect with our client on and off site, while promoting collaboration within teams and accelerating our project management capability.

Result

We successfully delivered the project on time and budget while navigating the challenging COVID-19 environment. Managing the project from end-to-end – including planning and design – has expanded our ability to deliver innovative sustainability solutions for retail branch facility refurbishments.
