Challenge
A federal government department with a longstanding partnership with JLL, investigated a previously installed 4.1MVA UPS (Uninterruptable power supply) and determined it was oversized in its new Canberra office building.
Approach
Following the building investigation, we found that the recently installed UPS system was significantly oversized, leading to lower power efficiency and consuming more electricity.
Result
We delivered a new system design that reduced power losses by approximately 100KW – worth $127,700 annually. The solution we provided also reduced planned annual maintenance costs by 66 percent, and direct cooling costs by $32,000.
This was a $1.5 million project that resulted in $303,400 of savings in energy and maintenance operational savings, with a simple payback of five years.
