4Cabling is the leading direct-to-consumer manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer of cabling, IT management accessories and server racks in Australia. Starting out as an online business, it soon recognised a gap in the market to expand on the traditional distribution networks to a disruptive omni-channel business in order to provide superior service to its customers
JLL’s supply chain team was engaged by 4Cabling to assess its supply chain process, identify a path for rapid growth and create an offering that would set it apart from its competitors.
We identified the opportunity to consolidate 4Cabling’s warehouse operations as well as implement a cloud-based warehouse management system for rapid order fulfillment.
There was also the need for a new warehouse, which would help our client provide greater flexibility to its customers through the ability to provide urgent delivery, click and collect and after-hours locker pickup.
Key to this warehouse requirement was a location analysis to help focus search efforts for a new facility. We analysed key factors such as transport routes and the location of 4Cabling’s customers to pinpoint Homebush, in Sydney’s West as a prime location. This would allow 4Cabling to continue servicing its inner Sydney client base, while also opening up a potentially new base across Western Sydney.
With the results of the supply chain and location analysis in hand, we enlisted the expertise of our Western Sydney industrial and logistics agency team, which used its strong market knowledge to identify new industrial hubs and properties available that would meet 4Cabling’s requirements.
A perfect, premium site was found and we moved quickly to secure lease terms with optimal outcomes for both the landlord and tenant.
With manufacturing, central distribution on site and the space for after-hours lockers to be integrated into site design, the new property enables trade customers to pick up their orders when they are travelling to and from the job site, regardless of their start and finish time. This enables 4Cabling to provide its customers with the ultimate flexibility.
4Cabling’s new location and warehouse have now become strategic business tools to drive the growth and optimisation of its logistics processes and distribution capacity.
