The Australian labour market continues to surprise on the upside with the ABS reporting the domestic economy created 77,400 new jobs in February and the unemployment rate tightened to 4.0%.
As with most data releases, the interesting stories lie behind the headlines. NSW was the standout performer and the unemployment rate tightened to 3.7%. The ABS started producing monthly employment statistics in February 1978 and the NSW unemployment rate has reached its lowest level over that time period.
